It's that time of year: College coach carousel!

  1. Good point. This is going back quite a while, but Rick Stansbury? Can't think of anybody else.

That eight-person rally in West Lafayette must have been the difference...

I don't blame Bernie. If you have a reliable source in the athletic department who says that Painter called and accepted, you report that. If it is OBE, so be it.

As far as top recruits in Indiana, Crean is taking Painter to the cleaners as it is. Whether the players live up to the hype and Crean can win with them is TBD, but Crean is doing just fine at nabbing in-state talent.

If Shaka Smart is punching above his weight right now, he is screwed whether he stays or goes. If he goes, he is Stan Heath. But if he stays, he becomes Chris Lowery: the guy who took over a very successful program, had early success with his predecessor's recruits and then ran it into the ground. Four years ago, Lowery would have been a shoo-in for the Mizzou job and was seriously mentioned for every major conference job in the Midwest. Now the only reason he isn't unemployed is the big contract extension that he signed is too expensive for Southern Ill. to buyout.

    That option went to Tennessee.

BREAKING NEWS ON THE FRESNO STATE JOB: The school is narrowing down candidates and will be interviewing some of them at some point. This is what happens when you have to write about a coaching search but all parties are being tight-lipped.

One point of interest - if Todd Bozeman goes to Fresno State given his past history and the program's past history of NCAA problems, my head might explode. They might as well just station an NCAA investigator somewhere in Clovis if that goes down.

It started with the Fifth Down game and continues to this day

I should also point out that I'm guessing nobody is happier about the Cardinals' home opener than Bernie. Nothing says "nothing to see here" like playing to baseball's most overrated fans.

That was the first one that came to mind for me.

Oh it started long before that.

Disagree. Tom Crean kicked his dog when heard this. What, the in-state rival coach whose been completely kicking my ass twice a year might leave? Oh, wait... he's not. Fuck.

And this not the Donovan situation. Donavon formally accepted the Magic job, held the presser, went to Orlando, UF had already made arrangements Anthony Grant when, SEVERAL DAYS LATER Donovan changed his mind and went running home. Painter never formally accepted, officially he merely talked to Mizzou, declined and signed a fat extension.

Yup. But I don't think they do that. Frnakly, I don't know where they go.
