    Me either.

    It's Doritos or bust.

And I'm guessing that has to be in the mix for douchiest first post in board history.

There have been some great first posts lately. Andrew_Auger comes to mind, but that was just the Second Coming.

    Peace?

And people (mostly younger ones) wonder why there's resentment and tension, sometimes, between young journalists and older ones...

I'm willing to bet I've worked at least as hard as Dunne, I'm not 45, I'm not overweight, and I don't have a receding hairline. Does that give me the right to "blast" him?

I don't think I've done that, just have wondered how he's gone about accomplishing in a year what takes most people, even really talented ones, a whole career, and I have to wonder why he's done that.

There is something to be said for the journey to a destination, and, despite his quick rise, I would say that Dunne probably has not really experienced much.

He strikes me as the type who might end up doing everything he really ever wanted to do in journalism within, oh, two years, or so.

And then, he'll probably just be off to run a hockey team, or something.

It's true. A lot of us wish we had the opportunities Tyler has had. A lot of us wouldn't change jobs every few months to do so.

I'm guessing Dunne won't ever get his moving expenses paid for.

A guy goes to a doctor and says, "Doc, youve got to help me. My penis is orange." Doctor pauses to think and asks the guy to drop his pants so he can check. Damned if the guys penis isnt orange. Doc tells the guy, "This is very strange. Sometimes things like this are caused by a lot of stress in a persons life."

Probing as to the causes of possible stress, the doc asks the guy, "How are things going at work?" The guy responds that he was fired about six weeks ago. The doctor tells him that this must be the cause of the stress. Guy responds, "No. The boss was a real asshole, I had to work 20-30 hours of overtime every week and I had no say in anything that was happening. I found a new job a couple of weeks ago where I can set my own hours, Im getting paid double what I got on the old job and the boss is a really great guy." So the doc figures this isnt the reason.

He asks the guy, "Hows your home life?" The guy says, "Well, I got divorced about eight months ago." The doc figures that this has got to be the reason for all of the guys stress. Guy says, "No. For years, all I listened to was nag, nag, nag. God, am I glad to be rid of that old bitch." So the doc takes a few minutes to think a little longer.

He inquires, "Do you have any hobbies or a social life?" The guy replies, "No, not really. Most nights I sit home, watch some porno flicks and munch on Cheetos."

How do I figure? I figure because I know Tyler. I've worked with Tyler. And I'm assuming that's more than you have ever done. If not, please correct me. Because it certainly comes across as if you are making assumptions about somebody you have never interacted with. It sounds like it is better for your esteem if you believe in those assumptions instead of the truth. Hate to break it to you, though: he's a good person. Does things the right way. We're all a little naive when we're 22 or 23 or however hold he is. We all think we have the world by the balls. We all do stupid shit once in a while. But whatever. He's a good person and anybody who works with him will realize that.

If the Sun-Sentinel is upset he found a better job, well, they should be. Because he would have made that paper better. But if they were hoping to hire the candidate who would stick around rather than the candidate who would do the best job for whatever length of time they employed him, well, that's just stupid. Again, what, exactly, did they lose by ignoring these supposed red flags? Nobody has answered that.

Nobody said he was Gary Smith or Tim Tebow or whatever other snarky reference you want to come up with. He is simply a hard worker with a gifted voice. That immediately puts him in a small minority. He'll do fine in Milwaukee, or wherever he lands. Carry on with the brow-beating of the young whipper-snapper if it makes you feel better. But just realize that the only people hating on him are people who do not know him.

Because no one else has ever done anything important or written well. No one else here is capable of having a strong and talented voice...
No one has a problem with Tyler who earned a job with the MJS. Tyler, the 23-year-old, did a fucktard act in the way he he rejected a position that he accepted days earlier. The Good Person screwed up -- big time. And it is going to follow him, because he's now labeled as "the guy who texted changing his mind." Protocol does matter there, Skippy.
Loyalty is admirable; blind loyalty in not realizing your friend fucked up by changing his mind in a TEXT is just fucking stupid.

Maybe he talked to the S-S guy to explain that there may be another job and he may have to back out and he'd let him know as soon as he's sure, and THEN he texted the follow-up to confirm that he was pulling out.

Just playing devils advocate and trying to make sense of all this.

It's kind of funny how people can argue the same points for page upon page. Can we all agree that Tyler didn't handle the situation with the Sun-Sentinel correctly in texting Tim and that it was somewhat uncool to back out of a job so quickly after accepting it, but, in the end, he made a good decision for himself but hurt a few people who would've gone to bat for him in the process?
