Let the fan handle it just like the All-Star game

There is a scenerio that if enough newspapers and us old-timers die out, then yes, there could be change such as you're speaking about. However, even if say every paper died off in the next 20 years - as some predicted - the eligible voting body will around at least be around for about 50-60 years. I'm sure there are bound to be some changes by then.

OK, it's settled then. Guy_Incognito will now be selecting all Hall of Famers. And feel free to remove any current members you don't like.

Also, if you could do something about the box lunches in the media center, that would be much appreciated. The apples are always mealy.

    Is this a paid position?

Yes, all the mealy apples you can eat. And Pete Rose will send you a lot of "tokens of his esteem."

The end of BBWAA voting is a lot nearer than you think, and will be hastened by the whole PED issue.

No, not really. The Hall is extremely tradition-bound and cognizant of the historical link with the BBWAA. The BBWAA will be given every chance to adjust its admission standards to include a broader range of media, or will be given power to create a new panel system of voters.

In talking with people there, I get the impression they'd rather have a voting body half as big, knowing it consisted of actual neutral reporters who have been in the clubhouse every day for 30 years, than open a can of worms and have a big amalgam of people from various media.

Quite the contrary, for reasons I've outlined before. You saw what the tradition-loving Hall did to the Veterans Committee after the Mazeroski fiasco? I hope you don't think MLB cares about the BBWAA.

The Hall doesn't give a rat's ass about the BBWAA, and is anxious to pry the ballots from the hands of 90-year-olds who covered preps for the old NY Herald-Tribune but joined the BBWAA because the entire staff was signed up.

BBWAA's influence has been on wane for a long time, to the point that the organization matters little to anyone outside the small group of NY hardcores. And they're getting older by the minute. When push comes to shove, the BBWAA does little but hand out awards.

Given that the Hall and MLB will select the new voting body, it's hardly going to be a "big amalgam" of people from various media. It will be a select group, much like the revamped Vets Committee.

I'm sure you realize that even Heltons road splits are better than Konerkos combined totals??
