OK, aside from the fact that this deal is awful and will do absolutely nothing to bring about economic recovery (it's more likely it will turn the already-modest recovery back around the other way), the political leaders have wrecked the political process.

There will NEVER be another rise in the debt ceiling hike without mass politicization and hostage taking. All because Obama decided to deal with people you can't deal with, and handed America a massive shit sandwich in the process.

America should rise up and tell the powers that be of both parties what we think of this charade. Or we could just bitch and moan about it and insult strangers as a catharsis.

Nope, YF has just outlined perfectly the GOP talking points which will foghorn from every orifice of the corporate-pawn MSM for the next 15 months.

The GOP will pull the debate forward into September/October and use it to apply the coup de grace to Obama.

My guess is he will preemptively punt shortly before the convention and call for the continuation of the cuts himself. The GOPBags will attach some bizarro-world poison pill riders on the bill -- nationwide right-to-work, repeal of Roe v. Wade, elimination of the EPA, Depts. of Energy, Education, Labor, etc etc etc -- to force him to veto it so they will hang THAT around his neck, "Obama vetoed the bill to keep your taxes low!!" (Or who knows, he might SIGN it?!?! Because otherwise, he might make somebody angry at him!! )

Then they'll come back with a slightly-cleaned up version and peel off enough Dems to ram it through the Senate. Obama will stand there with his thumbs up his ass.

More likely is the GOP will do what it did last December and make passing (or, in the Senate's case, invoking cloture and bringing a bill to a vote) contingent on extending the Bush tax cuts.

Oh no! We'll never again be able to raise the debt ceiling without first having a debate about spending.

    Terrible.

And, funny that I never heard any concern of this sort when the Bork & Thomas hearings forever changed the Supreme Court nomination process.

But, I'm supposed to feel bad now. Nope. Not going to happen.

It's a good thing. People are now aware of the debt. Politicians will have to justify spending.

    Thank you Tea Party!

Obama's fatal flaw was revealed...the inability to be a prick to anyone buy Israel. I don't understand how this played out...Reid killed the original Boehner bill and the president said he would veto it. So the Republicans made it WORSE for the left to swallow, pacified the Tea Party with the changes, and Reid and Obama got on board. Seriously? Is this the Seinfeld Bizarro episode?

I'm glad to see the Cambridge/Boston wing of the Democratic Party has checked in on Obama's chances.

Here's another scenario. Michele Bachmann isn't the Republican nominee for President and its top choice Romney/Huntsman says no chance in Mormon Hell they pick that wingnut as Veep.

So rather than going home, Bachmann runs as a third party candidate and Obama wins by historic margins. Any Tea Party candidate who goes in as a third party player gives Obama the presidency — again.

Seriously, if he had fuckin' punted on Day One, he would have gotten a much, much better deal.

Although, to use the football analogy, he did punt, again and again and again. It just kept getting blocked, further and further and further behind him.

The Baggers will get at least one slot on the GOP ticket. Perry is pretty close to a full-throttle Bagger himself. They'll be plenty happy with that.

Just as likely at this point, Obama gets primaried or maybe third-partied.

    Won't happen.

The "Tea Party" knows they're better off working to take over the Republican Party, not going off on their own.

And, while they're an impatient bunch, they're making progress. They won't blow it and allow Obama to be reelected.

    That would end their influence.

    All true.

He could have had this deal -- or better -- two weeks ago and we could have avoided all the drama.
