You are putting way to much on one bad call. It was a big deal. They certainly had a reason to be pissed that day. But if it has really carried over that long, then that is a complete failure by the manager and the players.

This is a case where a team needed some solid veteran players who've seen a lot in their careers to steady the young guys. I know, the Pirates are still reeling from the Derek Bell, Randall Simon and the Pat Meares eras.

But without any steady veterans until Lee and Ludwick came on board, it's no wonder they fell apart.

or they were playing above their heads and came back to reality. 1 game of 162 does not send you into a spiral like that. It's a convenient excuse, and excuse is exactly what it is.

Agreed. That game against the Braves also happened to come at the beginning of a tough stretch of games. They followed that series with the Phillies, the best team in the National League, then the Cubs, who have been hot of late.

The ass-beatings by the Padres? Ok, that is just ugly.

It's not as intangible as all that.

This was a shaky starting rotation performing well over its head for four months. They're coming back to Earth.

The slide started several games before that. They are 3-14 in their last 17, which started the day after they beat the Reds to move seven games over .500 and were in first place.

This thread should have died about the third page. This team had its cheap thrill; they're history now.
