Not sure if you're being serious or not, but I thought it was one hell of a post.

I agree, for the most part. Typically, I don't like being told what I can legitimately debate and what I can't. But that's just a quirk of mine.

Yeah, I understand, but I read a post like that, and it's not REALLY telling you what you can actually debate, but more the writer's opinion of what he feels should be the only debate. If that difference makes sense.

Lately, I've been reading almost everything differently than I used to. Rapid reading, if you get what I'm saying.

Probably a marketable skill that will have some company keeping its eye on you.

I thought the story was very good.it's a shame that many here won't read it.It never made Vick out a hero.

I won't read it because of the headline.

Yep, a lesson for all the too-cute designers and headline writers out there.

This is a good example of the way a headline can shape the context in which people read a story. The story was a solid piece of non-sensationalistic analysis. Point of Order, Toure labels Vick's overcoming of adversity as "heroic" in the second-to-last graf of the story. That was my only point of contention.

Unfortunately, a lot of ESPN folks will probably look at the attention and "conversation" the headline/photo generated and use that as justification for running them. Except the conversation that they generated has little to do with the actual context of the story.

  11. Does Toure have a last name? And, if so, why does he not use it? I wonder if it's something really embarrassing, like this guy's name:

I felt the story (which I'm glad we're back to discussing) was really bland. "Michael Vick couldn't be white because, if he were white, he wouldn't be Michael Vick." That's an obvious statement, and it's true for any- and everyone. Race helps define who we are. That's basically all the story said. He framed it around this straw man that people have been asking what it would be like if Michael Vick were white. I'm not sure I've heard that very often.
