If the presidential election were held today, who would you vote for?

I don't like how the age of President has to be at least 35. I think we should reduce it to 18 or over. Who decided it should be 35?

The older I get, the less I am beginning to think that it really matters much who is in the Oval Office.

Luckily, the American political system is a pretty big boat that, for the most part, works pretty well.

Whoever is at the helm can spin the ship's wheel however they choose. The thing is going to keep going basically in the same direction while the passengers have fist fights about stuff that usually doesn't matter and over which no one has much control or effect.

A whole bunch of folks went all squeal puppy in 2008. But, looking back, how was President Obama's administration much different than a McCain administration would have been. For that matter, how is the current administration that much different than the Bush administration? (Run the Healthcare bill up the mast and salute, like a good sailor, but its effect has been pretty insignificant when compared to other market forces.)

Technological, demographic, world market, and other trends seem to have so much more to do with actual shifts in quality of life than who happens to be walking down the stairs of Air Force One when "Hail to the Chief" is playing.

So, heck, lower the age requirement to 22 and put Skiptomylou2 in there. Perhaps he can play with the nuclear football for a while instead of failing to figure out the magic and mystery of SportsJournalists.com.

 

I think Obama has proven to be significantly more conservative than McCain would have been. I can't see McCain shoving through the Nixon/Gingrich Health Care Reform Act.

But mostly, yes. The economy and society are not connected to a giant machine with lots of levers in the Oval Office.
