With the news that the Brush Stairway will be renovated and reopened (http://ballparkdigest.com/201111074319/major-league-baseball/news/polo-grounds-brush-stairway-area-to-be-renovated) it's time for a Polo Grounds trivia contest. Play or don't.

    1. Who hit the last home run at the Polo Grounds on Sept. 18, 1963?

    2. Who scored the final touchdown in the final AFL game played at the Polo Grounds on Dec. 14, 1963?

    3. Two future NFL quarterbacks played for Baylor and for Utah State in the Golden Hurrican's 24-9 win in the 1961 Gotham Bowl. They are:

    4. Who was the winning pitcher for the New York Giants in Game 3 of the 1951 National League playoff series?

    5. Who played the final college football game at the Polo Grounds on Sept. 29, 1962?

Not supposed to use Google. And Army and Syracuse played in a regular-season game; the 1962 Gotham Bowl was at Yankee Stadium.

I think a beer needs to be fetched.

  4. BTW, Baylor's the Bears, not the Golden Hurricane. That's Tulsa.

Pretty cool, though, that they're going to renovate those stairs. Glad to see a piece of history won't be lost.

I've never even heard of this staircase.

    It's the stairway to heaven.

Too bad real estate got too pricey in Manhattan. The Polo Grounds took up lots of it.

They didn't exactly build luxury housing in it's place.

    And, it's not in mid-town.

Unless you wanted to see this staircase, the average New Yorker and/or tourist would never be in this neighborhood.

For those that don't know, Yankee Stadium was built practically right across the Harlem River (which realy isn't a river) from the Polo Grounds:

How much does it cost to rent a 2-br, 1-ba at the Polo Grounds?

I'm guessing it's rent controlled. It's probably actually very cheap, and impossible to get.
