The last 30 seconds saved what i thought was a pretty meh finale. I figured with two years to go, the cliffhanger from tonight would happen at the end of next season, and then he'd be on the run for the final season.

That was definitely a holy shit moment.

  3. I don't know that I'm as impressed with the final 30 seconds as everyone else is. Sepinwall and other TV critics have been hammering Dexter since last season ended about not changing the status quo, and this was the easiest way to do it. And of all the ways to do this (trying not to spoil anything), I think this was the absolute worst way imaginable. I'm just not buying that Deb is in love with her brother.

Those are two separate thoughts. i've been creeped out by that whole second storyline the whole way, especially considering they're divorced now. :D

Either the producers of the show hate Michael C. Hall and/or Jennifer Carpenter, or theirs is the world's most amicable divorce. Just seems really strange that that would make it into the script.

This season finished up about the same time I finished rolling through Seasons 1-4 of Breaking Bad. I'm at a loss for what to watch now. Maybe I'll see if Arrested Development is on Netflix ...

The only way I see Dexter getting out of this is if he sets up some bizarre thing like Travis wanted him to do this and was threatening him and his family if he didn't.

I wasn't that impressed with the finale overall, especially the whole Deb/Dexter storyline, but the final line was brilliant: "Oh, god."

There were a lot of rumours this year that the broken Hall/Carpenter marriage caused behind-the-scenes issues on the set.

Assuming that is true, can't help but wonder if this is the first step towards getting her killed off.

Didn't hear about that. But that would be interesting with Dexter killing his biological brother, then (potentially) his sister who's 'in love' with him, and his dark passenger also led his dad to kill himself (and also Rita's death). Man, Dex just can't keep anyone close to him around.

That was my only other thought on how he gets out of it: He has to kill Deb.

By clue I clearly meant she would catch him in the act ... :D

Just got a chance to watch the finale this morning (it's been killing me not being able to read about it until now)

    1) It was a good finale overall, not great, but good.
    2) As the psychologist pointed out to Deb last week, Dexter is her step-brother, not her biological brother. So if she's falling for him for the number of times he's saved her life, so be it. Not saying I like or believe the storyline, but with Deb being messed up with her love life - which we've known since Season 1, I'm giving it a pass.
    3) The last 30 seconds-minute were definitely a "holy shit" moment.
    4) One way Dexter can get out of it is by saying that Travis snuck up on him while he was doing the final sweep and found the plastic. That Travis threatened Dexter saying he'd hunt down and kill his family and in a fit of rage Dexter decided to bind Travis to the table with his own wrap and make him feel the pain his victims felt.
    5) Another way is to play off Deb's feelings for him and tell her the truth. Tell her that he never got over seeing his mom hacked up and that Dad spent so much time with him, teaching him how not to get caught when he felt the need to do this. That he needs her help and support so he can get better for Harrison and not go to jail.
