Any other thoughts on the Kindle Fire?

I toyed with someone else's last night and it was impressive enough that I want my own.

Yes, it's not an IPad. But it does nearly as much for half the price. That works for me.

I love it. I've read two books since I got it and through my public library I download books that I can read to my kids.

The quality of picture on the screen is amazing.

If your local library does this. I think mine does not.

    Check this link out, 93:

For $15 a year you can become a member of the Library of Philadelphia, no matter where you live. I believe they have all versions of books available for check out. I know they have the nook versions, but I am not sure how those translate to the Kindle or if they carry the Kindle versions.

Well, got Mrs. TV the Fire for Christmas. She loves it. Surfed her HuffPo no problem...

...and she's already sick of me starting ever comment about it with "the people on SJ say..." so thanks for all the advice.

She's currently reclining on the sofa, bundled up, snoring Lab on her feet, reading Like Water for Elephants downloaded from the free Amazon collection.

I asked her, "well, how is the experience?" Her response: "Um, look at me!"

Unrelated to the Fire or anything, but technology amazes my very stupid self.

I read two short story collections and part of another book on the Kindle app on my pad. I later grabbed my regular, non-fire, non-touch, old-fashioned Kindle, to read something else. And the stuff I'd read on the pad was on top.

How does it know? I had not turned it on in the interim. HELP I AM FREAKED OUT BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING ME

I can't speak for a Kindle specifically, but I believe that if the two devices are connected using the same email address and they are constantly "updating" the information, then they will be eternally linked. If that makes sense. I know that my nook constantly updates my information to my online nook account, as long as I keep my internet connection on the nook in place. I often put it into airplane mode, which disables the connection, but only to save the battery, not because of big brother watching. I know that regardless, it will update itself every day in the middle of the night.

Moddy, I don't think you really want to know all the secrets your debit and credit cards and your Food Lion, Kroger, CVS, Sheetz, Wawa, Martins, etc... cards tell big brother.

Hmm, maybe the folks at B&N are beginning to see the light:

Since I got mine three weeks ago, I've read three books, watched the entire first season of Homeland and downloaded countless books to read to my kids.

I'm not impressed with the selection you get with Amazon Prime, but on some level that's to be expected. It's kind of unrealistic to think that the new book that is atop the NYT bestseller list is available for sharing and it's kind of unrealistic to think that the movie that just came out on DVD is available for free streaming...

I still love it. It definitely quenched any thirst I had for getting an iPad.
