In my experience, CBSSports.com commenters seem to be a lot more vile than most sites.

You leave comments on because to not do so just because a story is somber is hypocritical.

There's no God-given right for someone to be able to leave a comment on a Web site. A site doesn't even have to allow comments. Many allow comments only for responses to columnists or bloggers.

This, a thousand times this. The last few months of his life better be the lede. All the wins and all the money donated to Penn State in the world won't make up for the myriad lives he ruined by not doing what was right.

It appears cbssports.com removed the comments area from the retraction.

Twitter doesn't kill people. Irresponsible journalism kills people.

Oh, stop the hyperbole. I think the guy who stuck his dick into boys ruined many more lives. I think a mixed lede is the way to go.

I haven't seen a lot of premature deaths reported in print. I've seen a hundred on Twitter.

It can be mutually true that Twitter is a great way of communicating, and can be very irresponsibly used.

So who broke the story about JoePa not being dead and CBSwhatever.com screwing up? NYT?

CBS Sports now reporting that the Patriots have won the Super Bowl. Wes Welker named MVP, in a bit of a surprise.
