Think I might be of help here.

Somebody who talked to United about this job appeared to be under the impression that range was low 40s. Plus benefits.

    Own take on job:
-- D.C. United comms people are a nice bunch.
-- Stadium/place of work (RFK Stadium) is a shithole.
-- Part of town sucks -- absolutely nothing around the stadium but low-income housing.
-- You'll really need to know your soccer and MLS for this job.
-- For soccer writing in this country, this is a cushy job, and a well-paying one.

Oh, and there's talk of United moving to Baltimore. Just talk at the moment. But whoever takes this job might need to move within a few years.

More than 200 applicants and the finalists should find out by next Monday

That's an immense number, but it's not at all surprising. I'd love to know how many actually have soccer backgrounds and a working knowledge of MLS, though.

I e-mailed the director for an update, said he'll have one for all the applicants by Monday of next week.

I would imagine that if you could afford to take this job, you'd have one hell of a lot of fun.

    Same here...

But DC United is a historic club in MLS with a lot of success and an amazing fan base. With nearby rivalries in NY and Philly, I would imagine it's a great organization to be part of. Good luck to the one who gets chosen.
