Yet they offered Suter 90 million dollars. Yep, makes sense

I wouldn't go all the way to cyanide capsule, but it would be close.

Meanwhile in Preds alumni news, Steve Sullivan to Phoenix.

I get a little concerned about the length of these deals. 13 years is a long, long time in pro sports. But if they get 6-7 healthy, good years out of the guys, I'd consider it worthwhile.

With Parise joining Koivu, Setoguchi, Heatley and Cullen on the front line, maybe Wild fans won't have to pray for a 1-0 final score every night. Backstrom seems to be a pretty solid goaltender and Suter will do great for the defense.

    Absolutely Wild.

    Sorry for the bad pun.

Did not see this coming. Thought maybe one. But if I had to say both would end up in the same place I was sure it would be Detroit. But congrats to the fans in Minnesota, finally some legitimate hope for exciting hockey for them.

I wonder if Detroit starts looking the RFA route with guys like Evander Kane, Jamie Benn and T.J. Oshie still available. This could also be great news for guys like Carle and Semin as the Red Wings have a ton of cap space and a commitment to spend it. I wonder if they start over paying for some of these second tier guys.

Would not be shocked to see Semin, maybe even Rick Nash, wind up in Detroit before all is said and done.

I guess I'm kind of surprised with everyone being so surprised with Parise and Suter signing with Minnesota.

It's a franchise that sells a ton of tickets, has a good lease, has a building guys love, is a place where people care about hockey, etc. The two have ties to the area. And the Wild has a decent core with some good young players.

They have been bad for several years, but for two-plus months last year they were fantastic before injuries.

Sudden cardiac death beaten back by good samaritans and neighbors as well as a healthy dose of electricity from an AED. I hope he wakens and is normal. The next question will be, why his heart went into ventricular fibrillation. Similar situation to Muamba's death and resurrection on the soccer pitch

So when we hear the inevitable cry from toe owners of poverty, remember this quote from the owner of the Wild in April.
"We’re not making money, and that’s one reason we need to fix our system. We need to fix how much we’re spending rt now"

Hard to dispute this. Hard for anyone to believe the owners are going broke when deals like this are dished out. After Jordan Staal's contract, Peter Karmanos has nothing to bark about, either.

Sub in Cam Ward for Pekka Rinne and you've just described the situation from Raleigh.

I don't think anyone faced more shots, and Justin Peters couldn't be trusted when he backed up Ward two years ago. For all the talk about Jordan Staal, will he and Joe Corvo score enough to help offset the fact that Ward is facing entirely too many pucks?

I am surprised because it is sort of out of character for them to chase the real top tier free agents. Until today. I would dare say this is the boldest move the front office has made in the history of the franchise.
