BASIC FUNCTIONS The Dallas Morning News is seeking a full-time copy editor with experience working on sports pages. The ideal candidate has strong design, copy editing and content skills as well as solid news judgment. We’re looking for a collaborative editor who thrives under daily deadline pressure and can also juggle advance work. Web production skills are a plus. Hours vary, but all involve night shifts, weekends and holidays. Candidates should have 2 to 5 years of daily newspaper experience. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education: Bachelors’ degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field. Experience: Two to five years of daily newspaper experience. Skills: Must have good communication, organizational and time management skills; detail oriented; excellent command of the language, both for body copy and headlines; good computer skills Equipment: PC and basic office equipment Physical Requirements: Work is performed sitting at a desk using a computer (repetitive motion using a mouse and keyboard) and extensive telephone usage. Cognitive or Mental Requirements: Ability to read, scrutinize and interpret staff and wire-generated content in both story and graphic form. Ability to write compelling , creative and accurate headlines and photo captions under extreme deadline pressure; ability to follow written and oral instructions closely; ability to exercise news judgment when reading content and monitoring wires; ability to communicate clearly with fellow editors. Working Environment: Work is performed indoors in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate,but individual may be in situations where the noise level is loud.
