Becky Hammon and the Russians into the women's hoops semifinals.

You know, I wonder if my girl Becky should change her name to Hammonova or Hammoneva.

Nah.

 

The best part about watching the handball feed is when they stick a mic into the teams' huddles during timeouts and you hear the coach shouting at his players in an unintelligible (to me, anyway) language. It's cool to hear what Swedish, Turkish and whatever language they speak in Montenegro actually sound like, especially when spoken in such animated fashion.

 

Scrappy bunch of Montenegrans giving the French women all they want in this quarterfinal right now.

 

Speaking of Montenegro and handball, the Montenegran (?) women are locked in a tight quarterfinal with France. Up one with a minute to go and France with the ball. Montenegran goalie made a specrtacular save and they came down and scored to take the lead.

 

Tied with 30 seconds left, Montes call timeout to set up a last shot.

 

And the Montes win on a penalty shot with time expired after a wild final few seconds. They fumbled the ball away, dived on the floor to grab it away from the defense and got it to a shooter who crashed into a French defender while trying to shoot as the clock ran out. Ref called the foul (and it looked like the French woman wrecked her knee on the play) and the Montes cashed in.

 

Suck it Brazil.

The other USA beach volleyball team knocks off the No. 1 seed in the semifinals.

 

Good for Jen Kessy and April Ross. Down a set and 15-12, made a nice rally against the No. 1 team in the world in beach volleyball.

 

Great win for sure.
