Agreed. Peruse the stories and columns about the race. Most have more about Jones in losing than the winners. Many also refer to the Times story and mention Longman by name which is unusual.

Maybe not to Longman but to most The Jones story will be his defining career moment.

Too bad they're not sisters. I would so root for Lolo Solo.

Who cares? She didn't win, so she's the next coming of Zippy Chippy. Yay Amurca!

As I wrote before...Longman knows more about the bad blood here than others do. He didn't convey it terribly well.

Also: One piece in the NYT does not = the media. By and large, the media has been stupendously kind to Jones, in part because Jones has little modesty when it comes her life story.

One more thing: I've never thought it necessarily was the media's job to make news choices based on other news coverage. I would submit, for example, that whether Lochte's on Vogue or Jones is Outside magazine is not precisely germane to their story. Let Vogue worry about Vogue, and Outside worry about Outside.

The comments from Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells make pretty clear that Jere Longman wasn't inventing a story, even if he under-reported it.

Then there's Lolo Jones' quote: “They should be supporting our U.S. Olympic athletes." Do you agree? I know I don't.

What was the story? That the sisters were bitter about all the publicity that Lo Lo Jones was getting. If he knew the story why not just come out and say it?

At least in the sports section it's rare that The Times get's used as an athlete's mouth piece if that's what your implying here.

I have to say for someone who finished 2nd Harper acted like she won. I wonder if Pierson resented Ward steeling a bit of the spot light from her.
