Why does the Triple Crown seem underhyped?

Congratulations to Miguel Cabrera on clinching the Triple Crown and AL MVP.

I had hoped Jeter would win this year but it has to be Cabrera.

Anyone still believing Trout is the MVP needs to take a closer look at his numbers. His strikeout totals rose every month this year and he had 35 Ks in September. Over a full season that's over 200 Ks. I look for him to have a huge dropoff in production next year.

I don't think anyone was really sleeping on Miguel Cabrera. However, like the aforementioned Manny Ramirez, he has two things going against him - He's somewhere between average and cover your eyes bad in the field, and his off the field reputation is bad. He can hit like a bastard, but he can only hit, and when you're at 1B (mostly) you need to do that for a long time to establish yourself as a Hall of Fame guy. Cabrera is definitely on the way, but so were a bunch of guys at that position.

That being said, coming into the year, I'm pretty sure everyone recognized his value. I'm in two fantasy leagues, and he went 1/1 and 1/3 in them. But I think it's OK to simultaneously hold positions that 1) Miguel Cabrera is a heck of a player 2) Mike Trout is the MVP by justthismuch and 3) the Triple Crown isn't as big of a deal now as it was in the 1960s because players are evaluated differently.

Former Tiger Curtis Granderson putting a flicker of drama back in the TC chase with 2 HRs to pull within one of Cabrera and probably 1 more at-bat to come.

But with a huge lead, he won't get another AB after that, and a HR tie would still be good for the Triple Crown (albeit a slightly asterisked one).

Has anyone actually looked at Trout's stats besides the almighty WAR? He only has 83 RBIs, the only player in the last 15 years to win with a total that low was Ichiro. But Ichiro was a much better defensive player and was on a 116-win team.

A huge drop off would put him on par with Jetes' best year.

Go back to masturbating while watching the 2001 ALDS on VHS in your grandmothers basement.

That sounds like a guy helping out a former teammate.

Not Favre-Strahan level or anything, but definitely a good buddy concession.

Or a manager emptying the bench in a runaway game.

I can step into whatever the hell I want. You're no more of an objective authority figure than I am. I will call out snarky assholery. And yes, Casty knows more baseball than you ever will

Ad hominem, and appeal to authority. Well done.
