Chiefs, Royals and college credentials

    The OP was referring to popularity within the state, at least that was my interpretation. I second the Chiefs are generally very accommodating. Royals, too.
    Jake's suggestion i.e. Wichita State is a very good one.

    Also of note: An intrepid young reporter should be able to find out how to get credentials by himself.

    As someone who covered KU for a few years, I'm going to echo Jake. KU doesn't have a big team coming to the Fieldhouse this year, but the Baylor game will have ESPN, national media (maybe/maybe not because Baylor has underperformed so far) as well as scouts. It's worth a shot putting in a credential, but if you get a response of "no," don't take it personal. The reason is if your outlet doesn't cover KU on a regular basis, they won't hand out a credential.
