Wow. RIP to both is right.

I may have grown to hate the Orioles, but Earl Weaver was a damn good manager. And Stan Musial's career speaks for itself.

Greatest Cardinal of all time. Jack Buck might be the only guy to match Stan in terms of how much he meant to St. Louis.

Lotta people there loved Harry Caray, too.

Not to the extent of Stan and Jack. A class of their own.

Harry Caray owned the airwaves there back in the day. Look it up.

1970s and 1980s were a golden age of St. Louis play-by-play men: Jack Buck, Dan Kelly, Bob Costas.

    This.

Got in from a basketball tournament and was told the news. Had to sit down. Shortly thereafter, I started thinking the Post-Dispatch newsroom is really grinding tonight.

    RIP, sir.

  8. A sad, sad day indeed. The greatest Cardinal of all, hands down, no questions asked. And without question the most beloved athlete in St. Louis history. Was lucky enough to meet him as a youngster. Went to a STL steakhouse with my family for my grandpa's birthday. Walked in and Stan was sitting with his family at the table next to us. I asked my grandpa if that was who I thought it was. He said yes. My dad followed by commenting how the steakhouse must be great if Stan was eating there. My grandfather said 'Why do you think we're eating here?'

When Stan and family got up to leave my grandpa said hello, he came over and took a picture with us and couldn't have been nicer.

And maybe one of the best Stan stats I've seen tonight: Stan and his wife Lil were together for 72 years.

I grew up 30 miles from St. Louis. I'm more than aware of Harry Caray's time and popularity at KMOX. But he wasn't nearly as beloved as Jack Buck late in life.

my first job was at farotto's. musial would order pizzas to go and carry them out sideways, then call and bitch that the toppings were all off to one side. nobody argued with him.

different eras as far as free agency, and the cardinals got pujols' best years for cheap, but in an ideal world it would have been great to see him play his whole career in st. louis. still think he might finish his career there.
