    Columnist: http://apsportseditors.org/jobs-internships/help-wanted/sports-columnist-winston-salem-n-c-journal/

The Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal is looking for a sports columnist with top-of-the-line writing skills and the ability to present commentary based on reporting rather than just personal opinion, to write on deadline and to produce three strong columns a week on sports issues across our coverage spectrum, which includes local and state sports teams.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of sports reporting experience and at least two years of experience writing columns on a regular basis. Our retired sports columnist left huge shoes to fill, and this is a critical job on our sports staff.

Does anyone know much about this shop?

Just became a World Media Enterprise shop, which is Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett. Considering how he wants to invest in newspapers and isn't shying away from it, this looks like a pretty good gig.

Has to be much better than the cretinous death grip of Media General.

Like the other WME jobs posted here recently, this listing on the company's actual site is a little more than a month old. Not sure if this one has already been filled (most of the similar WME openings I've checked in on recently have been), but I would imagine the Journal is at least fairly well into the process by now.

    No question about that.

You'd think that, but don't bet on it ...

Didn't B-H already close one newspaper?

Based on what happened to you I certainly respect your take on this. It carries some weight.

I applied for this position, however I'm from out of state. Any ideas on how to get an interview if I'm an out of state candidate?

Did Mason Linker leave? Or did he move up the ladder?

Mason has not left. The columnist position would be a promotion. The other position would, I believe, report to him as he is their lead guy on preps. With that being said, I don't know if he is going for columnist position.
