AP's Twitter account hacked

One of the tweets was about explosions at the White House and Obama being injured. It caused the Dow to sharply drop.

Anyone else retweet that? I feel like an idiot, but I didn't even think twice about the AP account potentially being hacked. Lesson learned, I guess.

 

Here's the offending Tweet, which was re-tweeted by a huge number of news outlets and journalists before several AP staffers came on and said they'd been hacked.

Twitter is slightly better than a thousand monkeys banging on a thousand typewriters.
The thousand monkeys can't make the dow drop 150 in the blink of an eye.

 

That's 2 scary minutes I'll never get back.

First thing I did was turn on msnbc where Andrea Mitchell's doing her show in front of the White House. You could see people walking around business as usual. That's when I figured it was bullshit.

Actually, their password is bologna1. It used to just be bologna but now they make you use numbers and shit.

 

AP gets its twitter hacked, other jackwagons retweet false info because being first is more important than being right, Dow plunges, and I lose money. Thanks social media.
