The Great Canadian Wedding Gift Debacle

Pretty common in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. In Manitoba they are called "Socials" and basically a hall gets rented, you get a one night liquor permit to sell booze, and the bride and groom make the cash off ticket sales, 50/50 draws , and raffles of donated items.

 

I blame people.
They're the worst.

 

If she ate the whole venue, I can see why the bride would be upset.

 

Whatever happened to gift registries? Usually when I go to a wedding, I go to Target and pick them out an ice cream maker or whatever they've registered for.

Most of the weddings I've gone to have a Dollar dance. But you shouldn't go into a wedding trying to pressure your guests into giving the couple money. That's tacky. (Speaking of tacky, at one wedding I went to for a relative that shall remain nameless, the town auctioneer was a close family friend and he auctioned off the garter.)

I'm not married yet but the more I think about it, eloping sounds better and better.
