    Carroll O'Connor did well for himself being on two shows that last 8 seasons each, All in the Family and In the Heat of the Night.

    True, but it's one of the most successful and long-running sitcoms on right now... He also has a couple years on Spin City and Anger Management. I'm not really a fan of any of it, but being the lead on three successful shows (albeit on much different levels) should count for something...

    For all the plaudits he's earned in film, Tom Hanks HBO stuff (never mind Bosom Buddies) probably should earn him a lifetime Emmy (as if he doesn't have enough)

    Great year-long stint as a Secret Service Agent/CJ's boyfriend on West Wing.
    NCIS.

    I don't believe he's been mentioned, but Dennis Franz went 261 episodes on NYPD Blue, went four seasons as Det. Norman Buntz on Hill Street Blues, got a spin-off series (Beverly Hills Buntz) off that. He also played a different character (Sal Benedetto) on Hill Street Blues earlier in the series run.

    But long runs on Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue make for a heck of a TV resume.
