That was horrific. Eric Young showed a ton of class, though.

I'm guessing a Soriano trade is as much about 2014 as it is 2013.

The rumor is/was that the Yanks would be eating all of his remaining 2013 contract, but the Cubs nearly footing the entire 2014 bill, similar to the Vernon Wells trade. If this is true, the Yanks would be adding a starting OF for a pretty cheap cost (when they want to be under $189 million) because of the extra money they're taking on in 2013.

Yeah, I think they're done. It has been a great run the last three years, though.

Thirded. This stretch of the schedule, right after the break, is when they needed to make some noise to get into the race. Instead, kerplop.

Nominee for worst call of the year:

Ninth inning, Twins have first and second with no out. This happened and no infield fly was called.

Jeff Pearlman rips 24-year-old newbie beat writers for not asking the tough questions but, and correct me if I'm mistaken here, I don't think he asked Byrd any tough questions let alone one -- yet goes ahead and insinuates something here.

Why aren't people asking Marlon Byrd the tough questions?

Because it's the Mets and no one gives a shit.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A doctor retained by Alex Rodriguez for a second opinion - one that contradicted the New York Yankees' diagnosis of his leg injury Wednesday - was reprimanded this year by New Jersey's board of medical examiners over steroid prescriptions.

... The New York Daily News first reported the reprimand Wednesday and said MLB would expand its drug probe to examine Rodriguez's relationship with Gross.

The guy cannot get out of bed without stepping in a pile of shit.

I saw a replay last night and thought the first-base ump was clearly calling the infield fly rule, then backed off when none of the other umps did. After looking at this one a few times, now I'm not sure if he's calling the infield fly rule or straightening his cap. Regardless, that was a horrible non-call.
A quote from the ump after the game was that not only does the ball have to be a catchable infield fly, but the fielder has to "comfortably" be in position to catch it with ordinary effort.
