Globe and Mail reports that NHL may be loaning money to Phoenix Coyotes

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by hockeybeat, Dec 24, 2008.

  1. IceArizona closes the deal to buy the Coyotes. A bit surprised it happened, but closes an ugly chapter for the league, at least for a few years.

Fixed to reflect the over/under on the likely time period before the owners will want the lease terms renegotiated and sweetened again.

So who's next on the Seattle/Quebec City wish list? New Jersey? Miami? Columbus?

As far as current franchises possibly relocating? Maybe Nashville (again)? Anaheim??

Nothing against the cities seeking a franchise, but I really hope the NHL doesn't expand. 30 teams is enough and they need to grow the league before spreading further out.

Wonder if the province of Quebec will levy a tax on visiting athetes with the proceeds going to the franchise owners?

The Devils have a five-year-old arena. They aren't leaving.

Of course not. They have a lease.

Everything points to expansion for me, particularly the uneven divisions.

This is a great move for the league. The Devils have a much nicer arena than the Coyotes.
