How he finally met the mother (Season 9)

The most interesting thing about this show is that they've pulled it off. Obviously, it's not over, but it's truly amazing that a show that never got great ratings was able to stick around as long as this one has and go out on its own terms. That almost never happens, especially with comedies... Even shows like Cheers and Seinfeld didn't completely go out on their own terms. Both times the star wanted out. Home Improvement ended because Patricia Richardson wouldn't do another season.

And while the show sometimes infuriates me, I don't think people can argue that the quality has dropped off. It's been inconsistent for most of the run, sometimes great, sometimes meh... But there's always been enough there to keep enough people coming back to stay on the air. Love the show, like the show, have mixed feelings about the show, any way you look at it, that's impressive.

I told my wife the other night, I'm really glad this is the last season, it's totally fizzled out. Even last season there was enough to keep me wanting to come back, now I'm just wanting them to get it over with already.

The Wedding at Bernie's bit made me laugh, not much else did.

And Marshall in an SUV with Sherri Shepherd bits seem more like filler than anything. I'll watch it till the end, but it's a good thing it's the last season, I'm not feeling like I'll miss it at all. Maybe that's the point?

They're not mutually exclusive though. I see no reason the show can't be funny and also have some scenes with Milioti.

If they had continued the bit of doing flash-forwards to Ted with the mother, I'd like it a lot more. Going out on their own terms is all fine and good, but that means they should be able to come up with a satisfying ending. That means doing the work to make the mother seem like something other than the silver medal because he can't have Robin. They can't do that without showing her more.

It's like episode 5 or 6 of 23....I think we'll get plenty of The Mother by season's end.

The real shame is the way Carter Bays and President Obama have forced y'all to watch How I Met Your Mother.

What plot is there left to advance?

Ted meets the mother at the bus station after the wedding, falls in love and marries her.

I called the season premiere "Ordi - wait for it - nary," but the episodes have had a ton of really good laughs. Love Barney and Robin passing off Marshall and Lily's "how me met" story as their own. Or last week, the poker game with Ranjit Even Pete Campbell's dad from Mad Men showed up.

"You chose ... poorly" cracked me up every time. Plus, Ted's brief moment of hope when a woman who hadn't seen that he'd already paired off showed up.

The Templar knight was hilarious throughout, from trying to wave Ted off toasting the dead priest to "She chose... Wesley."
