What do you own (or do or eat/drink) that others would consider extravagant?

Until we got those sheets, I doubt we had ever spent more than $100 on any of it either. We got an $80 blanket as a wedding gift that is really, really nice... that was high end for us until we got these sheets.

None of it makes any sense. My in-laws are very nice people and treat us very well, but they're not the kind of people who want or need that kind of bedding and we're sure as hell not either... We've thrown a hundred different theories out there as to why they were purchased and the one that makes the most sense was that they bought them for themselves and got the wrong size.

Finding out how much they cost kind of sucked, because it went from "just having one really nice bedding set" to "having a really nice bedding set that we're worried about ruining..."

We use the comforter regularly, but we don't use the sheets as much as we probably should. I don't want to have a bed where we're uncomfortable about having the boys jump in with us in the morning. I don't ever want to be those type of people.

Yeah, I have a Tag watch that my wife gave me as a wedding gift. I have one really nice suit, but it gets worn 2-3 times a year unless we have a bunch of weddings or funerals.

Craft beer only. The explosion of new breweries where I live has made this possible.

I drank some Miller Lite Monday night and it was like dishwater. Prior to that, I could not tell you the last time I had a domestic bottled beer.

I paid $9 for a beer with some friends recently and they looked at me like I was insane. One of them was drinking PBR in a can, which is a whole 'nother story.

I own 10 watches, including a couple pricey ones. Some Brooks Brothers suits and shirts and ties. A shotgun worth $10,000 at last check. A $300 pair of boots.

Some who don't love college football or sports in general might consider spending about $1,100 annually for three season tickets at Microville Tech to be an extravagance. But at least the half that is the mandatory donation to the school scholarship fund is an 80 percent tax writeoff.

Of course, I don't spend $9 a beer at the tailgaters. PBR is consumed there on occasion.

Please tell me you're dropping those off at the cleaners.

And, what's the mix between white, blue, other?

I get spending money on travel.

I don't get an annual trip to Disney, even if you have kids.

Don't get me wrong, I love Disney. I've been as a kid, with just a girlfriend, and with a child. But, there are so many places to go, even with kids, why would you limit yourself to one place?

We were travelling to family in Central Florida pretty consistently and would hit Disneyworld for a day or 2 every couple of years. This year we are actually building a vacation around going to Disneyland.

It is consistently fun. You know that generally the kids are going to have a great time which makes me happy.I also enjoy the Disney experience quite a bit.

I don't know that if I could only take one trip I would always go to Disney but I certainly don't think it is a bad choice if it is the only trip you do.

I make my own beer and only buy craft beer....so it gets pricey.
Wife and I went to one of the better beer stores in town and walked out after a $65 bill. In total, we had bought two sixers of Bell's Cherry Stout (17 bucks per) and 8 single bottles of various German dobblebocks. That may (may) last us for the rest of the week. I may hit the local beer store that fills up growlers and plunk down $20 for whatever looks good.
The real money spent goes to improving my beer making. I actually brought a brewing catalog to look for a new pot, a burner and electronic thermometer. I also need to order some new grains and such. If I ever decided on kegging over bottling...a whole new price level off the top (but cheaper after that).

My wife is getting a new (higher paying) job, and I'm almost done paying off my (8-year old used, 4-year owned) car...so I'm looking forward to the extra money to throw around.

I tend to visit National Parks any chance I get, provided that they are OPEN. I got screwed out of visiting a couple in October, including a National Forest that was closed. Bad timing.

I own a Harley that I have greatly customized to about a $30K worth. People tend to give me comments about that one.

And, like Spike and a few others, home brewing and craft beer drinking. (Spike, I had a Heady Topper this weekend. Amazing doesn't describe it, by the way.)

I have a fridge full of great beer -- tons of high gravity crafts -- but a few Busch Lights for my normal beer drinking friends. Oh, and mom's beerrita's when she visits.

And for the special occasions, I have four very pricey whiskys in the cupboard, two of which you can't buy in this hemisphere.

  12. I have to ask...where's a good place to get started with brewing, and what books/reading would you recommend to learn the process?
