That would be a great hire for Wyoming -- although it does remind me that at one point Tedford was such a highly regarded prospect for an NFL job that Cal gave him a bajillion-dollar extension.

Very true. Every time just about any job comes open, a bunch of reporters sit around looking over a list of names of coaches who have done well someplace else and put together a list. It's almost comical.

Petersen's name will be on every list. So will Kevin Sumlin's. So will Pinkel's and Ed Orgeron and Gary Patterson and Art Briles (never mind the fact that he, like Sumlin, just signed a long-term extension). And we can throw in John Gruden, Bobby Petrino, Kirby Smart, Charlie Strong and a few other usual suspects.

Tuiasosopo is gonna coach the bowl game. Tui is my favorite Husky of all time, I love giving him one game. Maybe 6-7 years down the road he will be a head coach somewhere.

This is one part of the whole coaching carousel that I absolutely hate. Coach A has coached the team for the entire season, in some cases for several seasons. All parties involved should have the integrity to finish out the season.

I'm okay with it as long as they told him this was just for the one game. Tui has only been an assistant for three years, he needs a lot more time.

I agree with this completely. College football sells kids and fans on the importance of bowls, and coaches constantly leave before coaching in them. Weak.

Pinkel said on Mike & Mike this morning that he was unequivocally staying at Missouri.

Caveat: Pinkel was a college teammate of Nick Saban.

Pinkel's in a tough spot. He's not exactly a prime candidate to leave and go elsewhere, and yet he should be getting a nice extension (like a Sumlin or Mora) But I have to think his contract already runs to a point where he could retire.

Seattle PI says Chris Petersen and Alabama OC Doug Nussmeier (who had the same job under Sarkisian from 2009-11) are the front runners at UDub:

If he's gonna get the job, Tedford better pack his longjohns. Supposed to be about -30 in Laramie tonight. That's chilly.

Right and Cal was much better without him this season. :D

If the NFL can have a rule prohibiting teams from contacting other team's coaches while the season is in progress, why can't the NCAA? It's not like the NCAA rule book isn't already about 600 pages thick.

Given the way the schedules have lengthened, we probably should push the whole calendar back a bit. Bowl games end in early January, then start the coaching carousel and push signing day back until March or April. What would it hurt to move signing day back a month or two? We're talking about a bunch of 17 and 18-year-olds who need to finish high school before they get wrapped up in too many other things.
