Subbed less than 10 times, allegedly started the relationship after she stopped subbing. Was she just on scouting trips?

The only way it could grade out a little higher is if we get the facebook/social media pic, in addition to the mug shot. By providing both, you give the audience a little contrast.

 

Authorities had been investigating the relationship since November, when the 17-year-old student involved reported that the teacher had stopped sleeping with him and, hey, somebody had to pay.

I hate to be cynical but I would be surprised, no shocked, if this wasn't 100% accurate

 

A substitute? How is this against the law? If the age of consent is 18 in that state, fine. Otherwise, the whole "logic" behind these encounters being illegal is that the teacher has undue influence over the student. What the hell was a substitute teacher going to do to the kid?

 

It's a journalism board. Not being cynical is not an option.

In this particular case, I don't even see how it's a crime if she wasn't a sub any longer. And hadn't been since the relationship started.

 

Because, in Texas, an educator-student relationship is a crime regardless of age, consent, or enrollment status. They don't even have to be at the same school, much less in direct contact.

 

Her best bet then is to argue that she wasn't really an educator as a sub. More of a babysitter.

 

Again ... story does not specify whether the student was female or male.
