I was never a huge fan, but definitely enjoyed him in Capote. Fantastic performance.

This sadly appears to be the truth.

I don't know a lot of his work, but I love his story about how he ended up in Mission: Impossible 3. His agent called him up about an offer to be the movie's villain, but Hoffman had no interest in the role. He told his agent to ask for three (may have been four) times as much as he'd ever made in a movie and thought that would be the end of it. The agent called the studio and they accepted his salary demands without batting an eye.

    Even Hatteberg couldn't save him.

Older stories say he had a drug problem in his youth, got clean for 23 years and it lasted until 2012, when prescription painkillers became addictive and he then found heroin.

Reminder that there's no such thing as a former addict.

Loved him in Lebowski, Boogie Nights, Pirate Radio, Scent of a Woman, among many, and he made that turd Along Came Polly kind of fun.

He got to bang Tomei. He's getting high-5s all around in the Great Beyond.

He was one of the GREAT actors of his generation.

First movie I remember him in was "Twister" and from then on I was hooked.
And his least known film that he knocked out of the park was "Owning Mahowny,"

And here's the famous "Uncool" scene from "Almost Famous"
