Yeah, if the Pats thought Brady would be a Hall of Famer, they wouldn't have passed on his six times before they finally drafted him (they had no first-round pick that year, but two 5th-rounders and three 6th-rounders. Brady was the second of three players New England picked in the sixth round).

    I just studied this draft.
The Los Angeles Express took a kicker- Tony Zendejas of the Kicking Zendejas Bros.- in the first round.
What a joke that league was.

I covered Brady's first Patriot rookie camp practice. He was a tall skinny guy whose passes were lucky to hit the ground. He looked every inch the sixth round draft choice. His amazing story isn't the draft, it's how he kept getting better day after day after day even in his rookie year where he was third string. That's obviously mostly him and partly coaching, but New England showed no special smarts picking him. It was keeping him that was genius

He was the starting QB at Michigan. It's not like he came from C.W. Post.

You have to have some level of football ability to start at QB for Michigan.

NFL teams have done that, too. Does that make that league a joke?

True enough, but a million guys good enough to start for Michigan can't even get an NFL job in the first place, or if they do, they soon prove they aren't good enough.

Like the guy Brady split time with in college -- the great Drew Henson.

    Don't ask stupid questions.
    USFL was a joke league.

A quarterback who is smart, coachable and has a good work ethic can last for 10 years in the NFL even if there is virtually no chance they ever become a regular starter.

I'm guessing that's where most thought Brady was headed before he became one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

It's a great success story. Brady was drafted in the sixth round, Romo was undrafted and every other regular starter was third round or earlier.

Brady was raw and was coached up.
Bill Walsh knew a hell of a lot about football and thought Gio. Carmazzi would be a star- he was supposed to have Brady's career.

You get a bit of a pass when you pick one Hall of Fame QB in the third round and trade a second and fourth round pick for another.

Carmazzi was a piece of garbage. Jim Druckenmiller was worse.

Walsh missed on a few players.
When he was broadcasting he said rather boldly that Mirer would be the next Montana.
But he also discovered Jeff Garcia, who was NFL flotsam when he got his opportunity.

Is Bridgewater dropping 100% the pro day? Not following this as close as I have in the past, but the guy was consensus #1 the whole year, couldn't have had a better bowl game, and.... Seems like a lot of drop over a pro day.
