We are loving the WC in our house and at work where it is basically on non stop.

Can always count on Triumph for some soccer perspective.

The tournament would last too long. You would have to add another 4 days to the end of the schedule. If you want to keep 2 teams per group advancing, that would be a lot of meaningless matches for both teams and even worse for one of the teams. If you increase the knockout phase to 20 or 24 (32 would be too much I think), that means there is a total of 8 more days, at least. There is a pretty narrow time frame between training camps and pre-season club training for the best players out there.

Also, not many soccer players play 9 matches in such as short period of time and the qulaity at the end would really dip.

Man U is playing a match against the Galaxy at the Rose Bowl on July 23. There is very little offseason for some of these teams as it is.

Also, if the goal is to create more separation between number 2 and number 3, you're not likely to get it simply be adding a number 5.

Hey, you've got to cash in on American fans with your B squad when you can.

They had some pretty decent rosters for the tournament last year, but that wasn't a World Cup year. I suspect we'll see some weak rosters this time around.

We've got Inter-Real Madrid playing here. At least most of their rosters will be long done with the World Cup...

I've been to a couple of the tours. The A squad starts the match, then they sub out six of them before halftime.

Suarez's defense to the biting charge is he lost his balance and his face collided with the Italian's shoulder. But there was no bite. Nope. Not at all. Ignore the teeth marks.

Ecuador is fucked as Switzerland is up 2-0 against Honduras.

Reading stories about how Ghana threatened to boycott the Portugal game if they weren't given the bonuses promised. The Ghanaian president flew the money immediately to Brazil. Obviously, Ghana's heads aren't completely in the Portugal game. At first, I was leaning toward a Ghana rout, but not so much now.

Of course, the USMNT will be working against the trend of teams that played in Manaus losing its next match. England, Italy, Cameroon and Croatia were 0-4 after visiting the rain forest.

Looking at the FIFA tiebreaker procedure, a drawing of lots is theoretically possible between the U.S. and Portugal.

But only if the U.S. loses 3-0 to Germany and Portugal wins 2-0 over Ghana.

This outcome would leave both teams at -2 goal differential and at 4 total goals, and head-to-head measurements won't apply because they drew.

Ghana has some sort of pay dispute going on. Perhaps they will tank on purpose.
