He's not Peter Gammons or Buster Olney as a NTL writer but was a very good beat writer when covering The Yankees.
He put Times local coverage of The Yankees on par with the tabs

Even though I knew Trace was a Son Volt album, I was thinking in terms of his solo stuff.

Still Be Around is a fantastic song - I pulled up iTunes and put it on as soon as I read your post - but the best Uncle Tupelo song Farrar wrote/sang, objectively, is Steal the Crumbs.

Agreed. He was a top-tier beat reporter. Like many of those, he is still adjusting to column writing.

It shouldn't be hard for someone with talent to be interesting.

    This.

But the designers at the NYT and several other major papers don't subscribe to this attitude on any level.

That's one of the worst fronts I've ever seen on a major/national paper.

Did they do the same for Melo's signing? Can they do that for Jeter's final game?

People are sick of those stories as well.

I'm not interested in my sports section trying to be minimalist/hipster cool.

Whether you're sick of the story or not, this was big news and you should cover it like professionals. If they thought this story only merited a mention in the transactions and nowhere else, I hope they didn't write a single story about LeBron from the day he opted out until the day he signed.

Do readers care about design in 2014? Let's be serious.

In most cases, I would agree.

How many people picked up the section and thought they got a fucked-up section?

My other question: Is it even accurate? Did he SIGN the deal on Friday or did he agree to the deal on Friday?

Asked and answered several times in this thread, including six posts down on the first page.

To sum up, no, it's not accurate.
