    Description:

Five-tool sports star to play (well, work) in Sarasota

We’re looking for a five-tool talent, skilled in editing, reporting, photography, video and social media, to become assistant sports editor for the Herald-Tribune’s sports staff. The primary focus will be directing prep sports coverage, starting with our award-winning website: HTpreps.com. High school football is king here, with nationally ranked teams and elite Division I recruits, as well as the IMG athletic training center. Our game plan stresses engagement and reader interaction; recruiting coverage; video highlights; polls; profiles; and, most of all, connecting to an audience that wants both a great print read and a timely tweet. The Herald-Tribune is the respected news authority in Southwest Florida, but we are also innovating like a start-up. If you have the drive and talent to star in this game, we want you in our lineup.

If you have the skills, don’t send us a cover letter gushing about how you “love sports.” Show us.

We need a crisp cover letter, links to clips, an online resume, and a Twitter account with more than three followers. When you’ve collected all of the above, send it to Sports Editor Scott Peterson at scott.peterson@heraldtribune.com.

The previous No. 2 was big into video and social media. The "Twitter account with more than three followers" is not especially dignified, but it is an interesting place to live and work. Halifax has mixed reviews as a parent company.

Looks like a pretty solid paper. Where's Mic Huber going?

Solange Reyner is leaving, for the Seattle Times: https://twitter.com/APSE_sportmedia/status/490274516216459264

Mic Huber has 42 Twitter followers, not 3: https://twitter.com/srqmic

Scott was a good boss to work for, while I worked for him. Gave me a ton of opportunities and allowed me space to learn. Reporter Dennis Maffezzoli is top notch. I'm guessing this hire would work with Dennis plenty.

My bad! I thought Mic was possibly leaving. Forgot all about Solange!

Application forwarded to Scott tonight. :)

What's the balance here between writing and desk work?

Why the hell would a paper the size of Sarasota list photography as an essential skill for an assistant sports editor?

That's an interesting point. It might be that they're stretched thin when it comes to photography. The more people who can shoot, the better.

Out of curiosity, what is the pay range for a position like this?
