This isn't a sports-specific job; we're looking for someone to work with every department on digital projects and in handling breaking news. But we want this person to have a specialization in sports, managing our social accounts, moderating live Ravens/Orioles/Terps chats, and creating sports content for our site. PM me with questions. Thanks. -- Matt

    Company: The Baltimore Sun
    Position: Community Coordinator
    Location: Baltimore, Maryland
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: Negotiable
    Website: http://baltimoresun.com

    Description:

The Baltimore Sun has an opening on its audience engagement team for a community coordinator. This individual will help guide The Sun's social media, live coverage, breaking news and community engagement strategies. She/he will be part of a group of five in the newsroom focused on digital content creation and distribution, and cultivating meaningful connections with users. We're looking for a talented multimedia journalist who will work closely with our mobile, breaking news, design/development and coverage teams on daily stories and big-idea projects.

The ideal candidate is a news junkie (with sports experience) who wants to shape our content offerings and improve our digital products. She/he is a strong project manager who will lead efforts to create new features and functionality that increase audience and engagement across platforms. Strong writing and multimedia skills required. Experience with web, mobile, social and video production preferred. Working knowledge of Omniture, SEO best practices, Illustrator, CSS, HTML and JavaScript is a plus. Job responsibilities include:

    * Assist with the daily programming of The Sun's main social media accounts, with responsibility for growing and leveraging our presence on these platforms.

    * Create content for baltimoresun.com. Experiment with digital storytelling tools. Contribute to The Darkroom, The Sun's popular photo and video blog.

    * Manage live coverage initiatives across digital products and platforms. Work to create new forms of content geared toward mobile users.

    * Lead efforts to expand community engagement initiatives and grow niche audiences.

    * Work to increase and enhance user-generated content and engagement on digital products.

    * Communicate social media and digital best practices to the Baltimore Sun Media Group newsrooms, encouraging input and sharing among colleagues. Lead and contribute to training sessions.

    * Help oversee Audience Engagement events in the community, including The Sun's Newsmaker Forums, reader meetups and The Mobbies, our annual celebration of Maryland bloggers.

This position requires early morning and some weekend hours. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume and work samples to Matt Bracken (mbracken@baltsun.com), director of audience engagement/development, and Pete Sweigard (pete.sweigard@baltsun.com), assistant managing editor for digital.
