I wasn't snickering at all before.

    I am now, obviously.

Who taught you to use a period at the end of a question? Must be a desk jockey.

You're dumber than I thought you might be.
But good luck with the seventh-grade midterms.

That's because his bitterness surpassed his compassion about three jobs ago.

Here's my tale of the Gannett restructure. I had worked at the Capital Journal in Pierre, SD as its sports editor but was basically a one-man sports staff. I saw an opening at the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls and saw this as an opportunity to grow as a journalist (I'm only 26). Little did I know while going through the interview process and ultimately accepting the job that there was a restructure in the very near future and jobs would be loss. Fast forward through two months of hard work, and I'm being laid off despite many of my co-workers stating that I've earned a raise rather than a dismissal. Obviously budget cuts are a part of the real world, but it would have been nice to know that this was on the horizon prior to leaving my job and moving across the state. I've been told that the restructure was common knowledge around the newsroom months before I've arrived, but they still didn't have the decency to let me know about it before I uprooted for what I thought was a great opportunity.

Not to jump on you too hard, but during the interview, but did you ask anyone if there were any future cuts on the horizon? Especially knowing Gannett's track record?

If you did, and they lied to you, shame on them. If you didn't, you learned a lesson for the future.

No, I didn't, and that's on me. I did assume that any company that is hiring would be looking for help for more than two months though.

    Sure, that's it.

    Go with that.

    So great. Well done.
