The first snapshot, based on 25 ballots, which is 4.4 percent of last year's 571 total:

    100 - P. Martinez
    96.0 - R. Johnson
    84.0 - Smoltz
    80.0 - Biggio
    80.0 - Piazza
    ————————————
    72.0 - Bagwell
    64.0 - Raines
    56.0 - Clemens
    56.0 - Bonds
    56.0 - Schilling
    28.0 - Trammell
    24.0 - Mussina
    16.0 - McGwire
    16.0 - E. Martinez
    16.0 - Lee Smith
    12.0 - L. Walker
    12.0 - Sheffield
    8.0 - Sosa
    8.0 - McGriff
    8.0 - Kent
    ————————————-
    4.0 - Garciaparra
    4.0 - Pete Rose

In the early going. Biggio has lost a vote, Piazza has gained two and Raines has gained one.

No big surprises, glad to see 5 on pace. Those who are doing worse than they should: Bagwell, Raines, Trammell Mussina & Kent.

I'm voting no on Pedro -- he had too much of a jheri-curl. /Gurnick

It would be nice to see 4-5 guys get in so we don't have to hear about "gridlock"

You'll hear about for at least another year or two even if they put it Pedro, Johnson, Smoltz and Biggio. If no one drops off the ballot, the newcomers next year are Griffey, Edmonds, Hoffman and Wagner as the top 4 -- so a lot of 10-ballot guys could just replace their only open spots with those four and nothing changes -- and there's at least four guys every year through 2019 that people could vote for on the first ballot.

Under modern voting they haven't put in five and last did four in the mid 50s.

And apparently Hal McCoy is giving a vote to Aaron Boone.

Show me a worse one right now. There are around 40 known ballots and that is the only one with fewer than five names.

Barry Rozner is the first known to split the Clemens-Bonds vote. Gave one to Bonds, not Clemens.

I would like to hear the reasoning on that one.

He only talks about the guys he voted for, no mention of Clemens: "Voters may check a box next to 10 names maximum, which is a shame because this ballot could have gone 12 or 13 deep. So here's one writer's selections, minus -- for space reasons -- the annual PEDs proviso: Bonds was a 400-400 guy before he got on the stuff. If his career ended after 14 years, his 1,455 runs scored would be good for 79th all time, 445 home runs 40th, 460 stolen bases 50th and 1,299 RBI would be 117th. He was MVP three times and won eight Gold Gloves the first 14 years of his career. Bonds' WAR of 103.4 through 1999 is good for 20th among position players."
