    Description:
Are you a journalist that not only knows how to write, but also knows how to find good news stories and features and takes the initiative when covering assignments? Are you someone who is just looking for a job or someone who wants to be good in this profession?
If you are the latter and has the skill sets we are looking for, then you might be a perfect fit as an assistant news/sports editor (with InDesign experience) for The Plain Talk & Broadcaster Press in Vermillion, South Dakota.
The PT/BP is a weekly print edition that comes out every Friday and is now becoming a daily presence online. The goal is not to be the best in the region, but to be a trendsetter in the industry.
The right candidate would be selected based on a go-go attitude and the ability to seek out stories, knowing how to interview sources and the desire to want to learn. You won't be micromanaged so you will be trusted to get the job done without having management tell you every little thing you need to do.
Quality and quantity of content is important for Vermillion is a place where there is news to be had. We expect the right candidate will be able to produce 10-15 stories a week while aiding in design of the print edition. Beats would include the Vermillion School District, Clay County board, county sherriff department, arts and entertainment, and plenty of others. If you have a love of sports, Vermillion is the home of NCAA Division I's University of South Dakota, which participates in the Summit League for all sports other than football which they compete in the Missouri Valley Football Conference (FCS).
Vermillion is a town of 10,000 local residents, but is home to 20,000-plus persons August-June when the university is in session. It is located 30 miles from Sioux City, Iowa 50 miles from Sioux Falls, SD and two hours from Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. If you like to visit a big city it is right nearby for a quick getaway.
For those interested in applying please send us three writing samples and a resume with references to alan.dale@plaintalk.net. Phone calls are welcome, but may not be returned in quick time and we can be reached at 605-624-4429.

Wondering if "go-go attitude" means you must sing "We Got the Beat" while working desk shifts.
