    The Gold Standard, Fort Knox’s award-winning weekly newspaper, is seeking an ambitious and skilled writer to become its sports editor.

    If you would enjoy covering a wide variety of high school athletics, Army intramurals, youth sports and other sporting events on and off post, along with writing your own weekly column and shooting photos, don't allow this opportunity to pass.

    Regular feature and news assignments will add to your experience.

    The Gold Standard publishes each Thursday with a circulation of 10,000.

    The individual will be directed and supervised by The Gold Standard editors, but will be employed by The News-Enterprise, a property of LCNI, Shelbyville, Ky.

    JOB POSTING: SPORTS EDITOR — The Gold Standard, Fort Knox, KY


    The Gold Standard, Fort Knox’s award-winning broadsheet and Kentucky’s largest weekly, is seeking an ambitious self-motivator to become its sports editor. If you would enjoy covering a wide variety of high school athletics, Army intramurals, youth sports and other sporting events on and off post, along with writing your own weekly column and shooting photos, don't allow this opportunity to pass. The Gold Standard publishes each Thursday with a circulation of 10,000. Readership includes military personnel, civil service and contract employees, federal retirees, family members and ranges from Fort Knox throughout a five-county area of the region, including Metro Louisville, the nation’s 16th largest city. The Gold Standard is also mailed throughout the country and literally around the world. Staffers annually enter print journalism competitions sponsored by the Department of the Army and several civilian organizations, and have myriad opportunities to strengthen and polish their skills in reporting, writing, editing, layout and photography. The sports reporter will be supervised by The Gold Standard editors, but will be employed by The News-Enterprise, a property of LCNI, Shelbyville, Ky.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    · Ability to write compelling, comprehensive, fact-filled local sports stories on deadline.

    · Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related discipline preferred.

    · Two years journalism experience, including internships and/or college newspapers preferred.

    · Knowledge and experience in digital photography, including Adobe Photoshop.

    · Strong communication and organizations skills, initiative, enterprising, adaptable.

    · Familiarity with the military is a plus.

    · Working knowledge and understanding of local and/or regional sports scene a plus.

    · Must be able to contribute and function in a team-oriented workplace environment.

    · Strong time-management skills.

    · Must be willing to work at the times sporting events take place, including evenings and weekends.

    · Must be receptive and responsive to coaching.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    · Develops, proposes and writes stories focusing on sports and recreation activities on Fort Knox and surrounding areas.

    · Accepts and completes sports reporting and photography assignments.

    · Will be called on to contribute stories about other aspects of Fort Knox.

    · Achieves team and individual goals established by The Gold Standard editors.

    · Ability to use a digital camera and capable with Adobe PhotoShop

    · Establishes and nurtures sources among athletes, coaches, administrators and others involved in local sports.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    · Indoor/outdoor work involved.

    · Involves sitting and/or standing for long periods, walking and repetitive typing motions.

    · Current driver’s license required, plus proof of insurance.

    · 40-hour work week with some evening and weekend work.

    · Must successful complete background check required by the installation
