Figured it would be interesting to have a running log of the best/worst April Fools nonsense, especially regarding fake news stories.

    I'll start.

April Fools! Virgin launches elaborate prank - Mar. 31, 2015

So mean. It's Branson. Pick on somebody your own size.

I've given word searches that only have half the listed words in the puzzle.

The ah-ha is when they all realize that no one has found a certain word.

I've told this one before, but here goes.

At my first gig, we had a copy editor who was a new hire and was struggling. Nicest guy in the world, but worked slower than the rest and missed a lot.

Sports Editor comes in the office and says to the Copy Editor, "I need to talk to you alone in my office after the chase is done."

Copy editor: What is this about?

SE: We'll talk about it after the chase.

For a couple hours, this guy thought he was getting canned. He was near tears for most of the shift. I was in the office after a preseason baseball game and I was told to hang out because we were going to take him out to make him feel better after he was fired. The guy was talking with the union steward and people were trying to talk to the SE on his behalf, but the SE just wouldn't talk to anyone.

At 12:15 am, the guy goes into the SE's office and comes out five minutes later, red in the face. The SE follows him out and leaves. He goes over the union steward who asks if he'd been fired.

"No, he had some benefits things that I had to sign since the secretary was on vacation. I told him I thought I was being fired and he said, "I know. April Fools!"

This was 18 years ago and I think of that every April Fools Day.
