If only SB NATION was around back then, we could have gotten 10,000 words on that trip to the airport.

Apparently, part of his "retirement" involved making a terrible rap song:

If you haven't read the book, Wiseguy, by Nicholas Pileggi, it's worth your time. You realize Henry Hill was incredibly full of it, but it's a fun read if you like mob stuff. Even better is The Good Rat, by Jimmy Breslin.

Or if he worked for the Tampa Bay Times he could have written about how scarred he was by the whole experience.

Maybe he's the rare actor who saved his money. I know he always showed up at golf pro-ams or celebrity tournaments so he didn't totally disappear.

The numbers which they were talking about in the 30 for 30 were simply not to be believed. No one was taking that sort of action on regular season college games without the ability to lay most of it off.

Looney is such a brilliant reporter. He joked once that he couldn't travel anywhere in Texas, because he helped put a lot of those schools on probation during the 1980s. He was the one who Barry Switzer blamed for starting the whole Marcus Dupree fiasco. Switzer even referenced this in his book. Oklahoma didn't want to let SI do a cover story on Dupree and Looney did it anyway because Dupree had always dreamed of being on the cover of SI. Things went downhill from there...

It is a very good read, the biggest difference being that the Pesci character was an amalgam of a couple of real-life guys. TommyDeSimone (DeVito in the movie) did really kill Billy Batts and Spider, but wasn't Henry Hill's best friend. That was Paulie Jr. (who appears in the film but doesn't have any lines). He's the one who fixed up Henry with Karen.

Another good read is Ernest Volkman's "The Heist," which focuses solely on the Lufthansa heist and its aftermath. It's out-of-print and hard to find, though.

By the way, there's another Lufthansa book co-authored by Hill due out later this year.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're getting at. I'm guessing when they would put that much on a game, they would spread the bet out in several different places to avoid certain red flags.

They were talking about spending low-mid 6 figures on everyday games. There is no way that money like that could be spent on a game without the line being significantly changed and people getting suspicious. And no bookie is taking that sort of action (or even a tiny fraction of that action) where there isn't going to be an opportunity to lay it off.

My guess is that they were betting low 5 figures
