Ok, how to win a bar bet: Ask someone how many members are in the Big Ten.

    Typical answer: 14

Right answer, including the lone associate member: 15

Johns Hopkins joined the B1G in lacrosse only when Maryland and Rutgers joined last year. A sixth school was needed in lacrosse, to join Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. Six schools give the conference an Automatic Qualifier bid into the NCAA lacrosse tournament.

Tonight, JHU won the inaugural Big Ten Conference Lacrosse Tournament, 13-6, over Ohio State. The win seals the AQ for JHU into the NCAA tournament which starts this week. Also, JHU had a roller coaster of a season, punctuated at the very start by the death of one of their teammates, Jeremy Huber, in late January at the start of the season. The Jays finish 9-6 and head into the NCAAs on a roll.

Good news for Baltimore after a rather bleak week.

For Buck and Spikechiqet, break out your Big Ten Hopkins T-shirts tomorrow!

    Go Jays!

Now go out and make those bar bets, and collect some money off of your friends. If they don't believe you, send them to the B1G wiki page:

The ACC used to always have a four-team tourney with no AQ awarded, but briefly got up to six last year before Maryland left. Hopkins probably would have been just as good a fit to give the ACC a sixth and stick it to the Terps at the same time.

But the ACC doesn't really need the sixth because usually Cuse, Duke, UVA, UNC and Notre Dame are getting in AQ or no.

And in other lax conference oddities, Denver won the Big East for the second year in a row.

Yeah, even in lacrosse, conference realignment is a bit crazy!

Johns Hopkins is to Baltimore what Gitmo is to the rest of Cuba.

Geography is pretty much irrelevant in college sports these days, isn't it?
