Russell Westbrook breaks his face and some media outlets, who shall remain nameless, get hte anatomy wrong. Sadly, their medical experts also were a little off. It's tough to practice medicine by proxy, but it;s nice to know anatomy; the zygomatic bone and zygomatic arch are not the same structure.

The anniversary of Hank Gathers' death is an opportunity to consider how medicine reduces the risk of disease. But can risk ever get to zero? And if it is possible...can society afford it?

After the first weekend, are there any NCAA brackets that haven't been busted by upsets? In medicine, an upset is called a complication, and there are plenty of those to go around. This week's column:

NBA players, including Anthony Davis, Eric Gordon and Dwight Howard, are wearing specialized clothing to help treat shoulder injuries and perhaps avoid surgery. If it works for the elite athletes, will the technology filter down to mere mortals? This week's column:

Baseball commissioner is working to shorten the length of games this year, cutting a minute here and a minute there. Too bad medical care can't be quicker but you just can't rush technology. This week's column: taking time to care - MD direct

Fight of the decade and Pacquiao blaming loss on inability to get anti-inflammatory injection...really? Hopefully, his corner knows boxing better than they know medicine. A little science background

Errors, turnovers, missed shots...mistakes on the playing field can lead to a loss. The result of an error in medicine can be a little more serious and it's amazing how often they happen.

CTE is associated with concussion...maybe. NHL's Gary Bettman gets raked over the coals, but the latest consensus statement from the NIH says that the relationship between concussion and CTE is not clear. It's important to know what we don't know.

Stephan Curry and Klay Thompson have their sideline concussion evaluation done by team doctors. If a conflict of interest exists, it is the same one that occurs when every patient visits their doctor.

Stephen Curry is merely mortal when it come to water. No matter what heroics on the court, he is bound by the physiology of the body. This week's column talks about dehydration and heat related illness
