Also, just a coincidence that it was imposed a couple years ago.

When exactly was it put in? After Seau's death?

According to Heyabbott's post earlier in this thread, four years ago. If he's right, and Wikipedia is right, that would be after this: "In October 2009, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL Concussion Committee were called before Congress to defend their policies against allegations of neglect."

The league anticipated Seau's death and made this rule.

Junior Seau family at odds with Pro Hall of Fame over speech rules

Looks like it was first enforced in 2011, before Seau's death. I asked a legitimate question. Of course, you could be counted on for a legitimate response, as opposed to Sunshine's trolling.

Don't remember where I read it, so no idea if it's true, but I saw the rule was put in place after Carl Peterson spoke for Derrick Thomas at his induction and went on for something like 28 minutes when all of the speakers were told they had a 5 minute limit.

So deal with the person who violated the rule, or put in a mechanism to interrupt those who go over. It's not that hard.

The last thing any of us want are people going over on Hall of Fame speeches.

How many NFL fans actually give a damn about HOF speeches? It's the outrage of the week.

In this case, Seau's family cares. That should be enough.

That is a real big slap in the face to capture Seau's career.
