Can someone explain the obsession w/Ronda Rousey

Yeah, she could do that, retire until the UFC threw huge money at her for a comeback fight with the next champion. The thing is that she can make as much money in Hollywood with less intense training. She has to have enough acting chops to make it work, but plenty of people have parlayed their athletic visibility into a decent movie career. I hope she is smart enough to walk away on top, but few are.

I hope she kicks Mayweather's ass.

Well, Cyborg also has a positive steroid test on her ledger from 2011, and has refused or been unable to make weight for some of her fights. It's also widely believed that she's still on the juice, although there hasn't been a positive test since 2011, and her walking around weight is in the 165 to 175 range. So while the "pretty" factor is at play, I'm sure, the other issues with Cyborg cloud the water too.

She may also have at least one WWE match at Wrestlemania, which could net her a lot of money.

Re: the marketability of women's fighting without a "pretty" fighter, the better test is probably going to be Joanna Jedrzejczyk. She's the UFC strawweight champion, and currently 10-0. However, she hasn't been as dominant as Rousey (only two stoppages in her last five fights, and only one first round stoppage ever), with one of her split decision wins being controversial. It's not like she's clearly ugly or anything, but she's also further away from being a 6 than Rousey is.

That's true. Cyborg was juicing, and I doubt that she is far removed from it now. Making a fight between the two is the dream match up, but Rousey is not going to go up that far in weight, and if Cyborg is even able to cut that far she'll be hurting to make it. I don't know if that match up ever gets made. It would be fun to watch, though. Even up I think Cyborg takes Rousey, but that one could go either way. If Cyborg cuts that far Rousey likely takes her down.

The big reason to take that fight is money and an end to any talk about who the best woman MMA fighter is. The biggest reason not to is that it's a size mismatch, plus the whole PED thing. I doubt it happens.

Don't forget the possibilities of post-UFC porn.

    Rough & Ready Ronda Rousey.

  9. Cyborg is moving down to 140 (trying to anyway), with an eye on Rousey. As noted, she walks around at 165. Even if she drops down to 140 Rousey takes her. Losing that much weight is huge strain.

Some guys dig a strong woman. Isn't that the basic tenet of what feminism aspires to put within every woman?

Some, I would suppose, like the woman to whack HIM around a little.

    Others are just MMA fans.

As for the fight, and her fights in general, it shows that there really must not be a lot of talent in MMA. Hell anyone with "moves" could hang in a ring with the best there is for more than a round.

  11. I don't think there's a lot of argument to make against the lack of talent ...
What talent there is though Rousey is heads and shoulders the best. She has nothing close to her; akin to Babe Ruth playing the deadball era.

I'd last about 10 seconds with her.
