I will say, that's educational. And no, I'd never looked at it like that. I can understand your point.

And you're different from this 57-year-old white male on that one. I would be panicky.

We're not talking about court. We're talking about someone out on the sidewalk.

YorksArcades, you sound like a spineless wuss who won't stand up for himself. What a sad way to go through life.

Even if answering the question would completely clear things up and most likely result in a, "Ah, OK, have a nice day, sir" response from the officer?

Officer asks me if I am shoveling snow to earn extra money. I respond by saying, "That's really none of your business" and go back to shoveling. The officer does not therefore have reasonable suspicion / probable cause to detain me.

Now, would I play it that way? No, because the officer might fuck it up and cause me all sorts of hassles. But if I did play it that way, I'd LOVE it if the officer called me in, because he/she would be creating all the paper trail I'd need to have his/her ass in my briefcase.

Right. That's precisely the end result young African-Americans anticipate.

I wasn't responding to a young African-American. I was responding to the opposite --- Ragu. That HE would choose to be uncooperative (out of principle) did not exactly make sense to me.

In other words, nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah. Coming to you from the playground.

I'm not thinking only of the Glanville example. But I know many people here are willingly incapable of thinking outside the smallest window, so I guess I should have expected that.

If I'm shoveling snow on my property, I would be less receptive. If I'm out walking, and there's a burglary under investigation, I would respond differently.

    Yeah, that wasn't high-level debate.

You're not without stain, though, Mr. Plywood C.

Which is what happens much of the time, except in the worlds of the "I'm White, but only I know the life of a minority" posters here.

In critical moments men sometimes see exactly what they wish to see.
