And they hold the Feast of the Immaculate Conception to mark that date, usually on Dec. 8. Overlooking the fact that it's 17 days before, instead of nine months, because of their belief system, it's still not made to be as huge a deal as the birth.

Last I checked, half the world doesn't shut down to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. They do so on Christmas.

    Jesus Christ.

Your question is dumb because you're attempting to use a purely cultural milestone to prove a scientific "fact." It's like trying to argue that since your funeral is three days after you die, you didn't actually die on the day you died.

I have no idea what day we conceived our daughter. [/humblebrag]

But, I still believe she was human life from the moment she was conceived and, without question, had reached a level of "personhood" well before she will be born.

Nonetheless, her birth will be a milestone worth celebrating and commemorating. We've seen her on an ultrasound. We've felt her kicks. But, we'll finally meet her on her birthday.

It's not odd at all that this is the day we would celebrate going forward, regardless of our beliefs about when life begins.

Which again leads me back to my point about the dates on tombstones, which also was mocked. One date listed is the day when life ends, not three days later. And the other date listed is the day when life begins, not nine months sooner.

And, while it's a cultural milestone, that culture is used by many people as the rationale for the opposite when it comes to abortion.

Baron, dude, celebrating birthdays became a cultural thing because people know exactly when their kid is born. They often don't know when it was conceived. It's a practical, cultural, celebratory thing that has nothing to do with when they think "life" begins or what their stance on abortion is. Even people who would generally agree with your basic stance on the overall issue shake their head at this argument.

    "Regardless of our beliefs."

That's a very pro-choice statement you just made.

See, the pro-choice side believes that one can decide for themselves when life begins. If someone wants to believe life begins at conception, have at it. Want to believe life begins at viability? Go ahead. Want to believe life begins at birth? Fine and dandy.

Which is unlike the anti-abortion side, which says, "life begins at conception. That's it, end of story, no abortion for you."

Must be nice to be able to to have your own beliefs, isn't it?

Which goes back again to the concept of choice. They choose to have the birthday be a cultural, celebratory thing. They're not forced to make it one, unlike anti-abortionists, who want to force people into believing life begins set conception.

Assuming Baron logic is infallible, I'm rushing out to Hallmark with a list of Conception Card ideas.

OK Baron, let's check out the consistency of your logic.

Prior to the Civil War, should slave owners have been able to travel to non-slave states with their slaves? Should escaped slaves found in non-slave states been returned to their owners in the South?

    Dick doesn't celebrate his birthday.

That must mean Dick's life never started and he doesn't actually exist.
