If/when he returns, I'd love to see him have to go through Q school to regain his card. If the PGA were a true meritocracy, he's have to. Instead he'll be rewarded in 2018 for what he did in 2013 or whenever his last year was.

That's a good comparison. Woods seems at base to be a really lonely soul. Banging road beef was his equivalent of chasing the dragon to fill the void.

Because he earned exemptions that are available to anyone who achieves a certain competitive level? That isn't part of a meritocracy?

I honestly think he has one major left in him. Probably will be similar to Jack in '86 where he hangs around the first three days and then shoots lights out on the back nine coming home. And for one day and one tournament, we'll all be reminded of what used to be. Then, after that, see ya'.

I don't think either his body or his mind are capable of such a run.

I covered the last season of Larry Bird. When a back goes that far south, there aren't many miracle comebacks. I doubt he appears in any tournament except in an honorary capacity.

You win the pool if you had page 25 for Gee bringing this around to the Celtics.

I fully expect him to play again. I have a hard time imagining him being effective. And I don't expect his return to last long.

There is no evidence in either this story or the one that came out a couple weeks ago, that he is even halfway motivated to play championship golf again. Add in the physical issues, and I'd say this ship has sailed.

Fuck that. The guy may or may not be the GOAT, but you can't have a conversation about it without him. As accomplishments go, he has lapped the active field. If Tiger woke up with Phil's resume he'd kill himself.
The guy is a first class douche, to be kind

The Wright Thompson story on Tiger really is a feat of reporting and detail. Well done there.
