President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

I'm utterly fascinated that, in a month, we've seen a smooth transition of power in the tinfoil hat administration from those on the far right claiming Obama is a Muslim hellbent on turning the United States into a new caliphate, to those on the far left claiming Trump is going to enslave the entire human race.
That's why we're a great country, folks.

 

Decades of failure in Washington, and decades of special interest dealing, must come to an end. We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices a chance to go into government service.

 

I don't think the "enslave the entire human race" concern is a dominant one. But saying "Hey, the Trump-haters are just the same as the Obama-haters were!" is another false equivalency in a election season jam-packed with them.

The major difference is that the Obama-haters typically feared that Obama would do things that he absolutely never said or intended to do – take all of their their guns, enact Sharia law because he's a secret Muslim, give comfort to terrorists because he's a secret Muslim who by the way wasn't born here, redistribute wealth to the poor (i.e. take from whites and give to blacks and brown people), etc. Whereas the majority of the Trump-hating – not all, but a large majority – is the fear that Trump will in fact do things that he has publicly and repeatedly said he intends to do, such as build a wall, deport millions, ban Muslims from entering the country, enact a registry of Muslims, gut environmental regulations because he believes global warming is a hoax, not give up his business holdings because the president "can't have a conflict of interest," etc.

Huge difference. Yuuuuuge...

You don’t give two shits about politics/policy/other human beings. You just kept saying random shit until you got applause and retweets, and stuck with whatever worked. You gave the people exactly what they wanted. It just turns out what they wanted was for a white guy who inherited a bunch of land to erase the first black and first female presidents at the same time.
