    The Seattle Times is looking for a full-time temporary associate sports producer to handle our digital sports content and join a thriving digital news team. This is a demanding role that requires: an outside-the-box thinker unafraid to take risks, a solid foundation in journalistic principles and ethics, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to juggle and quickly adapt to changing needs, a willingness to keep up with the latest tools and techniques and the desire to work collaboratively with an award-winning Sports and newsroom staff to take Seattle Times’ digital sports to the next level.

    To apply, please submit the following:
    1) a resume;
    2) a brief critique of seattletimes.com sports homepage uploaded in a MS Word document;
    3) links to 3 samples of your work in your resume and/or attach relevant screen shots of your work as a separate document (Word or PDF preferred);
    4) a list of references (with at least one being a former manager/supervisor).
    Attachments are uploaded on the same page where you upload your resume. After uploading the resume, use your back browser to return to the page and upload additional attachments. Please note: file size limit is 4MB (4,000KB)

    Apply online at The Seattle Times | Careers.

    Email Sports Editor Paul Barrett at pbarrett@seattletimes.com with questions.

    I have touted Paul and the Seattle Times a lot on here. It still applies. You will learn here. A lot.

    Full time temporary position.

    In other words, we'll work you full time but then pull the rug out from underneath just as you're getting settled.

    What a load of horse manure.

    How temporary is temporary?

    This is the first I've seen this phrase, "full-time temporary." This job listing would be much more useful if the terms of employment were explained in better detail. As it is, it's difficult to make a judgment as to whether I am interested in this job or not.

    You don't need to worry about it.

    For what it's worth, Seattle also is in need of a temporary music writer. Can anyone shed light on why these are temporary positions?

    Because corporations are people first.

    Well, the OP did list an email address for questions, so there was that.

    IIRC, in my time at AP, there was a temporary position that was full time. I want to say it was something like nine months, and after it, it was sometimes possible to get a job within AP, but not necessarily where the temp opening had been. So it's not a completely unknown thing.

    Always some 20-something ready to take on a job like this. Remember the days when you had to pay your dues for years and years before working at a major metro? Now it seems most of the beat writers are barely out of college cause they can, you know, tweet.

    Or, you know, they have more skills suited for the modern media environment.

    Included in those skills would be working relatively cheap.
